A STRANGE AFFAIR

A NURSE VIOLENTLY ASSAULTED

HER ASSAILANT ATTEMPTS TO SHOOT HER.

[lit TELEGRAPH.— PRES 3 ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, last night,

A sensational incident happened a few nights ago on a lonely road near the Western Springs, on the outskirts of the city. A young asylum nurse was accosted by a man who struck her with a stone, and then threw her on the ground. The woman, however, resisted bravely, and succeeded in getting to her feet again. A further struggle ensued as the nurse made her way along the road, and on approach ing a cottage she screamed violently. Her assailant then released her, and, producing what appeared to be a revolver, fired. The woman put up her hands, and was wounded on the thumb. The man then made off.
