CLUTHA SEAT, [DY IELEGRAI'U.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, last night. Mi' J. W. Thomson, a candidate for Clutha, addressed tho electors at Billciutha last night. Ho criticised adversely large borrowing, and dealt at some length with tho question of tho extension and reform of local Government. A vote of thanks was carried, confidence being reserved at his own request. ELING AMITE DISASTER. The Union Company’s manager in Fiji advises the Head Office of the arrival of the Rakauoa at Suva on Tuesday, and mentions that during tho night the steamer passod a corpse seven miles from tho last position of the raft, but could not recover it. ADDRESS BY SIR JOSEPH WARD. Sir Joseph Ward addressed a crowded meeting at the Drill Hall, Bluff, tho Acting-Mayor presiding. The speech was on the lines of his Wiutcn uttoranco, A vote of thanks and continued confidence in him as member for Awarua, and in tho Liberal Ministry, of which ho is so distinguished a member, was carried unanimously on the motion of Mr J. Gorgeson, seconded by Mr L. J. D. Roberts.
