MATAWHERO STOCK SALE,
Messrs Williams and Kettle, Limited, report holding their usual stock sale at Matawhero yards on Thursday. Thera was a very largo attendance of the public, and the yards were well filled with sheep, and the cattle yards were filled to over fl
lowing. .11 i The sale commenced with the shoep, and in spite of the crowded attendance the first half-dozon pens failed to elicit a bid within Is to 2s of market values, and it looked as though the sale was going to be a slump. It soon became evident, however, that buyers wero waiting on ono another, and as soon as ono buyer started to bid out the others followed, and tho salo wont with a hum right to tho finish. All passed lots were disposed of boforo tho sale was finished, and every sheep was quitted. The following quotations ruled : —Old owes and lambs, 8s fid to 10s ; fresh full ewes, with lambs, made up to 12s 6d ; woolly hoggets made from Os fid to lls ; store wethers, in wool, made up to 14s. Pigs.—Wo had a fair offering, only half of which sold. Wo wero rather disappoint! d to see that farmers were not availing themselves of the outlook in this industiy, as thero can bo no doubt that bacon s going to be a big thing for Poverty Bay, and pigs must riso in value. Cattle. —Wo had an excellent entry in all directions. Springing heifers made rnoro money than at the previous sale, and young steers also fetched higher prices.
