DeWet, speaking at a second Paris meeting, said tho Boers wished for economic independence, hence their appoal for funds. Botha, in thanking the Boer Committee, said “ Throw us a rescuo lino ; wo shall know liow to use it.” Tho Standard says Botha’s language in Paris is a most formidable impediment to the granting of autonomy to the Boers. Paris, Oct. 14. The Generals loft their cards at the Elysee, and formally called upon M.M. Coombes and Dolcasse, who received them as distinguished visitors. ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION IN PARIS.
STRONG SPEECH BY BOTHA. "WHAT BRITAIN OWES THE BOERS.” By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Paris, Oct. 15. Tho Boer Generals made their appearance in tho streets of Paris at a time to encounter orowds of workmen leaving the factories. A large meeting was held in the Nouveau Theatre, to accord a fitting greeting to the Boor Generals. Shouts were made that they were heroes who had opened the world’s eyes, and shown the real strength of Great Britain. General Botha pleaded for economical and not political independence, placing tho Boer losses at a milliard and a half. General DoWot said that the Boers intended to remain faithful to the peace conditions, and wished to remain free. “We have a perfect right to ask for the friendship of tho Frenchmen, and wo count on you,” ho remarked ; “if Great Britain properly understands what she owes the Boers we shall again bo a flourishing nation. If she does not desire to comprehend we shall regret it for her sake.” General Do la Rey, as a descendant of the Hugenots, appealed to tho French to save their own flesh and blood. The sum of 0890 francs was subscribed at tho meeting. London, Oct. 15. The Generals remain in Berlin from Thursday to Saturday, and then return to London on important business.
