The manager of the Commercial Pacific Cable Company states that so far as the Company are concerned, the statement that it is intended to lay the cable to Honolulu and Fanning Island is uutruo. STUD STOCK. London, Oet. 15. Mr Devonport, of Christchurch, is shipping by the Ruapehu 111 stud sheep and two prize bulls. Some were purchased from the King’s farms. A HARD TASK. Vienna, Oct. 15. Koerber, President of tho Council, has submitted to the Germau and Czech parties in Bohemia and Moravia a scheme by wnieh it is intended to settle the language difficulty of both parties. Tho scheme has dissatisfied the Czech, who declare that it is not worth discussing. - RE-STOCKING BOER FARMS. Capetown, Oct. 15. Mr Lawley, Ueut.-Governor of the Transvaal, is granting the burghers loans of 11200 for the purpose of re-stocking their farms. FRENCH FINANCES. Paris, Oct. 15. Tho Budget submitted by M. Rouviert Minister of Finance, showed a deficit of 207,000,000 francs. It is proposed to raise fresh revenue for liquidating the deficit, leaving a surplus for tho next year of 11,500,000 francs. EDUCATIONAL BILL. London, October 15.
Mr Balfour, addressing a great enthusiastic meeting at Manchester, declared that it was a monstrous calumny to say that tho Educational Bill was put under control of the parsons. Tho laity were given a full share in the control from the lowost to the highest step of tho educational ladder. Tho taxation representation was not divided, because the real control rested in tho borough county authorities, and not with the so-called manager of the schools. 110 emphatically pledged tho Government to proceed with tho Bill. The Archbishop of Canterbury, in tho course of his visitation to the chargo of tho Canterbury Cathedral, generally approved of the Bill, but added that there was one defect apparent, and that was in regard to tho exclusion of women. STEAMER BALMAIN. Sydney. Oct. 15. The Government havo appointed a Royal Commission to enquire into tho condition of the stonmer Balmain prior to tho voyago to New Zealand.
