ELECTION TO TAKE PLACE ON NOVEMBER 13.
(Per Press Association.) rri i WELLINGTON, l.vt night. The dissolution of Parliament takes place at the end of the month, and within a week tiie dissolution writ for the general election will be issued, returnable in a fortnight. The general election will take place on the 19til Novemher. Mr W. 11. P. Barber, a candidate for the Newton seat, addressed the electors to-night. He declared himself to lx; a supporter of the present Government, and said that he would, if elected, assist in the perpetuation of its legislation. He advocated the main trunk railway lines being pushed oil with, and lie favored Island Bay being made tiie terminus of the Norßi Island system. Replying to questions lie said that lie was not in favor of Bible reading in schools. CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Mr J. Jameson, a member of the Linwood Borough Council, has definitely decided to contest the Avon seat as an Independent Liberal, against Mr Tanner, the sitting member, and Mr A. Loughrey, a Government supporter. Mr H. Pearce, Mayor of Linwood, is also coming forward.
MASTERTON, last night. Mr J. C. Cooper, of Mauricevillc, a farmer, announces himself as a candidate for the Masterton seat at the general election.
WAIIII, last night. Mr Herries, the Opposition candidate for the Bay of Plenty seat, addressed the electors on Saturday. He said that he did not object to the Acts passed by the Government, but he was not satisfied with its administration. He was not in favor of Bible reading in schools, but would support a referendum being taken on the question. A vote of thanks to the candidate was carried unanimously.
