LATE NEW ZEALAND

TRADE MATTERS,

By Telegraph—Press Association— WELLINGTON, last night. Mr Gow, the New Zealand Trade representative, writing from Kobe, says that the possibility of trade between this colony and Japan is very remote. The Japanese do not as a rule eat mutton, butter, or cheese, as they cannot afford such luxuries. Mr Gow says that he is convinced, alter careful and exhaustive enquiries in all the leading cities of Japan, that there is no market tiiere for our leading lines of produce, and that it would be waste of time and money for our exporters to try that market. The only articles for which we might find a market m Japan, in limited quantities, when the prices are low, would be wool, hops leather, and /lour.
