SAFELY ARRIVED AT LAST
AN EVENTFUL VOYAGE,
.(Per Press Association), DUNEDIN, last night. A 1 anxiety with respect to tiie s.s. Waikato came to an end to-day, when she arrived at the Otago Heads, and ■she was brought into Port at midday.
'Hie story of tier drifting, with a broken shaft, inis already been told. Repairs were effected at Capetown,and she resumed the voyage on August 27. A succession of gales were met witli On September 23rd it was realised tiiat there was not, enough coal to take the vessel to Hobart, and the engines were stopped and a fair wind waited for, in tiie hope oi making progress by drifting and sailing. On October -Ith, the barometer being very low, steam was got up, and with the benefit of a severe W.S.W. gale, Hobart was reached on Uie 6th. The steamer coaled there, and left again on the 811 k,
