INFECTIOUS DISEASES. [I;T TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Wellington, lust nighl- - far as scarlet fever is concerned, tho outbreak of iufectious diseases in tho c lt y appears to have passed the crisis. Tj lu Health Department reports that t‘ 10 number of cases of measles continues numerous. Those of fevor bavo gradually diminished. Tho great increaso in th u number of patients sent to the District Hospital has been a sevoro tax on tho staff, besides greatly overcrowding the institution. Even should the outbreak havo passed its most virulent stage, it is thought necessary, in order to prevent a recrudescence, that further accommodation should bo provided. At a conference between delegates of the City Council and Hospital Trustees, it was decided to recommend the Council to pay the cost of six additional nurses, and of erecting temporary buildings ad jaeent to tho Hospital, largo enough to accommodate twenty patients. To day, there were 175 patients in the Hospital.
PENNY POSTAGE. Owing to the expiry of tho agreement with Switzerland to accept New Zealand letters pre-paid at ono penny per half oz, all letters for Switzerland posted after the 30th inst. must be pre-paid at tho rate of 2|d for each half oz.
RESIGNATIONS. The resignation is announced of Mr A. Hall, manager of the Corporation Tramways, and of Mr A. R. Hislop, secretary of tho Marine Engineers’ Institute.
