By Telegraph—Press AssociationCopyright. SYDNEY, Sept. 11. At the Quirang enquiry, Hill, a former seaman on the vessel, stated that; it was the worst ship to steer that lie had ever been aboard. The steering chains gave way more than once, and they had to steer with me wheel aft. The deck houses were otter' full of water. The hatches, lie said, were not in a satisfactory condition. McCartney, consulting engineer of the Quirang, said that the steamer had been in the highest class at Lloyd’s, but had been allowed to drop out. Evans, the stevedore who loaded the ship on the last trip, declared mat she was absolutely dry throughput-. lie had put more coal aboard on the previous trip than on the last occasion. Brett, sailmaker, deposed that he had supplied new hatch tarpaulins in March. He considered that the liatehes were in good condition. The enquiry was adjourned until Friday.
