The Victoria College Council last night decided to appoint a professor of biology at L/OO a year, after long discussion over the financial position of the College and scarcity of funds. Jewellery to the value of ten guineas was taken, also money to an amount unknown, and fancy goods. An inquest was held this morning on Francis Robert Shearer, who died from injuries received on the head in the stable of the New Zealand Express Company. A verdict was returned that deceased died from injuries by being accidentally kicked, but the jury did not think there was sufficient evidence to justify an expression of opinion as to whether the horse was unsafe or not.
