TROOPSHIP MONTROSE.
[By Telegraph—l’ress Association.] Auckland, last night. The Montroso troops at Motuihi havo very comfortable quarters in a largo building with bods on each side, and ono long room. There is ample provision for warmth, and the outside one of the two bays is always sheltered. The discipline on the Montroso was splendid. The ship was beautifully clean, and the officers are well pleased with the behaviour of the men. Of tho troopers in hospital, onlv four arc seriously ill. One of theso is 'llovodith, of Christchurch, who goes 011 with the Montrose. The Gisborno list of troopers ex Montrose is : A. 11. Jones, H. Aston, and li. Bushuell.
It has now been arranged thnt tho Montroso proceeds South with the Southern portion of the Contingent. The troopers soriously ill in hospital aro Privates Graham, Manson, and Sliollock (Eighth Contingent), and Beattie. Corporal Manson is convalescent at Motuihi. It now appears that Meredith is well on the way to recovery. THE TWO MEN WHO DIED. By Telegraph—Press Association— Auckland, last night. Tho following are sotno further particulars regarding tho two men on tho Montrose who died at sea : Farrier Quarter-Master Scrgt. A’Court, of Christchurch, was received into tho hospital on tho 9th, suffering from pleuropneumonia and weak heart. On Wednesday ovening last, at elevon o’clock, tho doctor and chaplain visited him, and ho spoko cheerfully of his prospect of reaching home. He suddenly got WOI’SO, hOWOVOr, aud tho doctor again saw him, but bo died of collapse at seven o’clock. Ho was buried at sea with military honors, Chap-lain-Capt. Luxford conducting thosorvico. Tito sergeant had proved himself oxpert in his business, and during tho voyago out in the s.s. Norfolk, as well as in camp, ho had rondcrcd valuable service to tho regimont. lie was popular among his comrades, nud was a non. com. on whom tho staff could roly to do his work efficiently. Trooper Rudolph Manning, whoso parents resido at Pukokobc, Auckland, was only 21 years of ago. 110 died on Thursday evening of pneumonia and scarlot fever, aud wns buriod at sea with military honors on Friday morning, Capt.-Chaplaiu Luxford again conducting tho sorvico. Manning was a youth of buoyant spirits and cheerful manners, and whon in tho Newcastle hospital was a groat favorito with attendants aud visitors.
GISBORNITES BY THE MONTROSE. (Special to Times.) Auckland, last night. Tho following aro tho Gisbornites who nrrivod by tho Montroso : —McGovorn, Howoll, J. Cunningham, W. Bougon, J. Dunn, W. Giles, A. 11. Jones, J. Little, G. A. Larsen, 11. Martin, R. Niccol, Chas. Parker, Crobson, and O. Blowes. Tho latter is at present in quarantine, bub latest advice states that ho is convalescent. It is reported that theso Gisbornites should proceed to Wellington to got their discharge previous to returning to Gisborno.
