It is understood that tho local dofonco authorities have boon instructed to mako official enquiries as to tho accommodation and food arrangements on tho Montrose, with tho view to sending any complaints to tho Commission uow sitting in Wellington. A report that tho troopship put into Russell proves incorrect. Tlioro was dolay in coming down tho coast, which has not been explained.

Tho Waiporo, which passed Capo Maria at 9.27 on Sunday, saw nothing ot tho troopship. She cxporioncod a moderato gale thence to tho port.
