LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Legislative Council resumed the debate on the Address-in Reply, but the debate had not concluded when the Council rose.

HOUSE OE REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.80 p.m. The Speaker read a cablegram from Mr I Chamberlain to the Government as | follows : '■ Please convey to the House of 11 .presentutives the sincere thanks of Her Majesty ti e Queen and Prince of Wales and Loyal Family for the resolution ot condolence on the King s illness. A large number of Bills were introduced and read for the first time. In reply to questions Ministers stated it was tacitly understood last session that the whole question of the Frisco mail contract would be left to the new Parliament ; that it was hoped to bring down the Financial Statement next week. The House rose at 5 80 p.m. The House met at 7.80 p.m. Sir J. Ward moved the second reading of the Government Hail ways Superannuation l-’und Bill, to establish a superannuation fund in connection with the Government Railway Department.' He sketched the scheme at some length, saying ho had received no objections to it from the railway employees, and he had behoved it would have a beneficial effect on the service. A short debate ensued, in which several minor objections were raised to the Bill, out the general principal of the scheme was approved. The second reading was agreed to on the voices, and Sir J. Ward gave notice to movo on Tuesday to set up a special committee to consider the Bill. The House roes at 10 p.m.
