Gisborne Fire Brigade.
(To the Editor of the Times.) * Sir, —I presume that “ West End ”is one of the many grumblers who would stand and watch the willing members of tho Volunteer Brigade toil away at tho heavy manual to get to tho scone of a fire, but _ will take all sorts of care that they do not ’ give any assistance after the scene of a fire has been reached. They will (.each the officers and criticise tho men, but wIR take all sorts of care not to give any.assistance at the pumps. The members of the Brigade do not draw any line in reason if the manual can he taken to the scene of - the fire in anything like reasonable time—they are only too willing. Several times the manual has been lumbered up a long distance, to find on arrival there was no water to pump with. If West End ”is in earnest, now that the population in his district is increasing he might possibly organise an auxiliary brigade to co-operate with the main force, and have a manual up at that cni of the town on the scene of the fire, probably before the place was burnt down, and could assist with the salvage of goods, if nothing else.—l am, etc., W. Fraser.
