WAIAPU COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. (Spoeial to Times.; Waipiro, last night. Tho monthly meeting of tho Waiapu County Council was held at Waipiro this afternoon, when tho following members were present :—Messrs A. H. Wallis (in the chair), T. S. Sherwood, W. Milner, T. S. Williams, and E. H. Henderson. PRECAUTIONS AGAINST PLAGUE. A communication was received from tho Publio Works Office requesting that all necessary precautions should be taken against the introduction of plague. All yards were to be kept clean, and there was to be • a general crusade against rats. Received. THE LICENSING ACT. The Cock County Council forwarded a claim for £6 13s 2d, being tho Waiapu Council's share of expenses in connection with election of Committee. Amount passed for payment. WAIPARE ROAD. Messrs Kempt, Gardiner and Co. wrote in refereneo to the Waipare road, which was in a very bad state. It was decided to attend to the matter at an early date. HIKUWAI BRIDGES. A letter was received from Mr McLaughlin, contractor, stating that he had finished the Hikuwai bridges, with the exception of a small amount of plastering. Tne amount of the contract was £7354 2s 4d, and the deposit £350. He had been paid £6200, and the balance duo was £1505 2s 4d. A sum of £IOOO was passed for payment, the balance to be paid at the expiration of the usual time. Members spoke in terms of praise of the manner in which tho work had been carried out by Mr McLaughlin. engineer’s report. Tho Engineer in his report stated that the fourth of tho Hikuwai bridges was now oompleted, and that he had let 87 ohains of formation at Waipare. In regard to the contract for metalling let to Mr McNeil at the last meeting, the Engineer recommended that carting should be stopped until the roads improved. Tho timber for the smaller bridges was on the grounds. Repairs to the Tuparoa road had boon effected sufficient to keep it open for traffic. Mr Smith, district surveyor, was at present at Waipiro laying out the native allotments.
LOOKING AHEAD. In connection with the laying off of the Waipiro township, tho Council decided to make application to tho Government for reserves for municipal purposes, hospital site, school, post-office, police quarters, cemetery reserve, and Botanioal gardens.
TENDERS. The following tendors were received for forming a bridle track at Anaura : —John McDonald £32, McNeil and Sons £47, Robert Armstrong 2)36 (accepted), T, McNaughton £47, A. C. Forrestor £4l 13s. KAWAKAWA-AWANUI ROAD, Cr Henderson gave notieo of the following motion for tho next meeting, “ That tho Ivawakawa-Awanui road bo made a main road.”
