ROADS AND RAILWAYS.
AUCKLAND AWAKING TO THE IMPORTANCE OF GISBORNE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland last night. The council of the Chamber of Commerce met to-day. A letter was read from the New Plymouth Chamber askiug the Chamber to co operate in urging on ihe Government the necessity of completing old and forming new roads in the Taranaki district. Both in Taranaki and Hawke's Bay extensions of railways and roads always proceeded from the southern end, and nothing went on from the northern. It was evident that the intention was to attach Gisborne to the South. This should be watched closely, or possibly the most valuable portion of the Auckland province would be attached to the South. It was agreed to write to the New Plymouth Chamber, expressing sympathy with them in their endeavor to secure better roads. Mr Vaile added that there was only one way of dealing with these matters, and that was at the coming general election to make the Auckland representatives feel the position,
