THE GOVERNOR AND MR CARROLL.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. This morning, the Governor, accompanied by the Hon. J. Carroll, paid a visit to tho St. Stephen’s Native School, at Parnell. At the school, they were met by Major-General Babmgton. The boys went through gymnastic exercises and physical drill, and then performed some Maori hakas. The party then went through the school building, and His Excellency presented prizes to the successful competitors for tho best essay on “ The Empire.” Subsequently, the school building was inspected by His Excellency, and ho expressed himself heartily pleased with all he saw. The Hon. J. Carroll leaves to-morrow morning for Huntly, in order to meet Mahuta and the Waikato Natives to discuss matters in connection with the administration of Native lands.

Dr Pornare, Native Hoalth Officer, is to accompany Mr CarroU, and will address the Maoris on sanitary matters.
