By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Agent-General’s cable, dated London May 17th, states:—“The mutton market is quiet. There is no change in the prices of mutton and lamb. Beef is quiet. New Zealand hinds ‘ 5Jd, fores 4jd. The markets for butter and cheese are good. Hemp is steady at £36, June to August shipments £32. There is a better demand for cocksfoot seed. New Zealand 171 b standard is at 465.”

The local branch of the Loan and Mercantile Company received the following cable from their agent in London through their Wellington office yesterday morning ; “ Wool: The sales progress firmly. Since the opening of tho sales there has been an averago advance of 12 per cont. for medium and inferior greasy crossbred, and 7$ per cent, advance for slipe crossbred.”
