A PROSPEROUS YEAR.

Sydney, May 13. The annual report of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, to be presented to members on the 23rd inst., shows that the new business consists of 14,857 policies, assuring £3,753,064, net gain on the volume of business being no less than £1,659,800. A further sum of £14,085 will be added to the reserve, which now stands at £247,725. Claims by death are heavier than they were last year, but the mortality experience is well within expectations. Liabilities have been valued at 8£ per cent, the amount of cash surplus available for division being £538,725, an amount larger than in any previous year. The rate of expenses shows a decrease, being only 8i per cent, on the year's receipts. ' The effective rate of interest earned during the year was £4 9s 6d.
