COASTAL CORRESPONDENCE.

A REPLY,

(To the Editor of the Times)

Sir, —Allow your humble, though “ loquacious ” Hauiti correspondent, sufficient space in the columns of your popular Times to clear himself from the entanglements set forth by Mr Geo. Kilburn in last Monday’s issue. It is doubtless a marked pleasure to note that gentleman’s name affixed at the foot of his correction. That he has the conviction of his courage alone tends to denote some vivacity in bis statement. But, on tho hand, my author is also justly entitled to be somewhat accredited, especially considering the fact is admitted of “ that remarkably J.P. resigning and scooting ” for his dear bewildered natural. Then again that comic gesticulation that that play (the mare’s nest) afforded to the committeeman who deemed it absolutely necessary to “ hold his splitting sides ” from laughter. Well, George, surely there must have been some fun on the Bristol, eh I and Tim Donovan you are evidently responsible. Of course, its all right and personally, I regret having missed it, and Mr Tullock could be in with (roars of laughter) long before this ; but really I consider it was jioo early to drop ,the curtain at 9.30.—1 am, etc., '

COASTAL HOTELS. vTo the Editor of the Times.) Sir, —Kindly allow me space to endorse tho remarks of your travelling correspondent, appearing in last coastal issue, re the improvements of the Tawhiti Hotel, Waipiro Bay. The improvements made by Mr J. F. Pettie are a decided improvement, and that gentleman is deserving of every credit for the way he is working for the comfort and benefit of the travelling public. I hear Mr Pettie will commence to build his new hotel as soon as the Waipiro township is opened up. However, for the present he must be congratulated for bis good generalship in making the best of a bad matter.—l am, etc..

REPLY TO “SQUATTER.”

(To the Editor of the Times.)

Sir, —Permit me, a pronounced reformer, through the medium of your valued columns, and as a further matter of courtesy, to reply to assuming “ Squatter ” in my own jumbled but piercingeuphe mism. I eertainly thank him for his graceless but well-intended advice, and shall in future (should it be his desire) endeavor to accommodate that gentleman, robed in his satire of anonymous defence, in as simple a manner as would befittingly attend a simpleton, and sincerely trust this explicit “ diction ” will heartily meet with his defective approbation. Refer again to “ Squatter’s ” concise memo., and note it is not without tautology, and advice in due season will, I trust, assist bim to pick first the mote from his own eye. Ere I could entertain the thought of personally leading you, Mr Simpletou, in the direction you crave, I would sternly advocate a barbed wire lassoo (with which you probably are more familiar), atttended by a mule driver to lead you. How “ divinely beautiful ” it would be 1 Just imagine, dear readers, one long and solitary month to reply, but where there is life there are hopes. Your aspirations are gigantic, but you are to be pitied and not blamed.—l am, etc.,

Correspondent,
