ASSISTING THE POLICE.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Auckland, last night.
In the trial at the Supremo Court of John Duffy, charged with an aggravated assault on a police constable, one of the witnesses, James Lowry, a thick set young native of the North of Ireland, was the only person in a orowd of over a hundred who went to the assistance of Constable Irwin when he was being harassed by onlookers in his endeavors to arrest Duffy. Lowry was complimented by the Judge upon his conduct. His Honor said it was satisfactory to know that there was one man in the crowd, for the rest were brutes.
