SIR JOSEPH WARD.
HIS VISIT TO DUNEDIN.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. A number of deputations waited on Sir J. G. Ward, Acting-Premier, to-day, but the subjects dealt with wore mostly local. In reply to the request of bandsmen for the same concessions as volunteers when coming to Dunedin in connection with tho fallen soldiers’ monument or Coronation day, the aotiug-Premior said it was a mistake to suppose voluntoers were carried free. Every department had to pay for the work dono for it by other departments. Ho promised to look into tho matter, and see if any concession beyond that available to the general public could be made. Sir J. G. Ward visited with the directors, the Now Zealand Coal and Oil Company’s oil blending works, which were inspected; also the engino fitted up with apparatus for using oil as fuel. Tho Minister may probably have some of tho Government railway engines fitted up to give the oil a trial.
