AUCKLAND SPECIAL.
(Special to Times.) Auckland last night. Mr Henry Gittos, a popular Aucklandor, and an accomplished pianist, on leaving for Gisborne to open a branch of the London and Berlin Piano Company, was accorded an enthusiastic farewell. Gisborne people are to be congratulated on the new acquisition to their musical ranks, both in regard to the firm and tho Gisborne manager. The Gisborne horse, Geologist, ran a splendid race in tho Railway Handicap on Saturday, though just defeated by tho rankest outsider in Goetzer. It 'is expected that Geologist will have a race to his credit ere long. Ho looked a winner at the bend, but was defeated in the last few strides. The jockey Satmau iook tho place of tho Gisborne rider, Reidy, on this occasion. Tho local newspaper tipsters were not so successful as the ouo who forwarded last Saturday's tips to the Gisborne Times. Your correspondent tipped Tim, div. .£1 10s fid ; Highlander, £3 9s; Orange and Blue, £2 6s; Austerlitz, £2 3s ; Goetzer, £l6 8s 6d.
