NEW TAXATION
By Telegraph — Trees Aeauoiacioa — Copyright London, April 16. The Australian Chamber of Commerce in London is organising a movement in favor of a preference tariff for colonial flour and wheat. Canada is also moviug in the matter.
It is expected that tho new loan foreshadowed by Sir Michael Hicks-Beach will be issued in consols. The House of Commons sanctioned the stamp duty by 186 votes to 119. Sir Michael Hicks-Beach promised to consider the exemption of small cheques. He anticipated that the Transvaal revenue next year would be four to five millions. Within a few years tbe new colonies would- be able to bear capital charges of thirty millions towards the war. The Times says that the new loan will be issued immediately from consols at 905, and will be well received.
The Standard states half the loan has already been taken privately. American financiers have subscribed five millions.
Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Canadian Premier, expressed joy that England's new policy has cleared the way for arranging a system of larger trade between the Empire.
