MELBOURNE, April 16

Shippers of horses to South Africa are advised tliat the unlish military authorities at Durban order that no private Australian shipments will ho allowed to land. This .step is taken in consequence of the large number of inferior animals sent, and with the object of stopping what js termed the Jiood of rubbish, and placing the trade on a more satisfactory footing. Trie action has resulted in Die cancelling of intended shipments, and placed Mr Allen, who had got together a string of thoroughbreds, intending to race them in South Africa, in an awkwaru position.

Major-General Downe and Colone Botham have arrived fiom Capetov: to enquire into the question of ship ping horses.
