CHARITABLE AID.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, last night. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to-day adopted the estimates for the current year. The total expenditure for last year was £6063. The estimates were : Ordinary, £6400 ; building improvements, old men’s home, £3OO ; nurses’ quarters, £9OO ; infectious disease ward, £2OOO. To meet the building expenditure the Board have the bequest of a former member, R. A. Barker, £2OOO, and subsidy, £SOO, thereon. The chief items of expenditure last year were Timaru Hospital, £2823 ; Waimate do., £845 ; outdoor relief' £1687 ; old men’s home, £440. The Waimate trustees asked for £2OOO to erect a special ward for consumptives. This was declined in view of the Government proposal to establish a sanatorium.
