By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Agent-General’s cablegram, dated London, 17th, states:—“ The mutton market is very firm. The average price of Canterbury is 3ijd ; Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company’s, 3 5-8 d ; other North Island mutton, 3£d ; lamb quiet, Canterbury brand, s£d, other New Zealand lamb sd. Beef market excited and firm; supplies of American chilled beef are small, and likely to decrease. The stocks of New Zealand on hand are light. New Zealand hinds s>-d, fores 4id. The markets for butter and cheese are good. Butter is at 110 s, cheese 545. Hemp is steady; good fair Wellington, spot, £37 ; April to June, £33 10s. The stock on hand is 377 tons, as against 362 tons this time last year. Cocksfoot is quiet. 'Quotations are nominal. New Zealand 171 b standard is at from 42s to 435,"
