The Court also partly heard a dispute filed by the Typographical Union with regard to rates of pay, the scale of piece charges, etc., for hand compositors. The demands are contained in 36 paragraphed items, but negotiations with the employers had reduced the items in dispute to five. Evidence was given in support of the Union’s demand. It was agreed by both sides that overtime should be made one and a third extra all round. The Secretary of the Union intimated that he would be prepared to accept a compromise on wages of £3 2s 6d. Further evidence in these two cases will be taken in the country districts.
