A STORMY SCENE.
(Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, last night.
A stormy scene occurred at the City Council meeting last night. Mr Hannan having alleged that the Council had done unnecessary work, Mr Baume persisted that Mr Hannan' should indicate the particular item. Mr Hannan, after a warm interchange, said : “ Well, anyhow, I am not a Judas. I don’t come to the Council and get what belongs to another man for my friend.” Mr Baume challenged Mr Hannan to explain fully ; otherwise,” he remarked, “ I shall brand you as a coward and liar.” Mr Hannan : “ You have used this Council and the City Solicitor to get what belongs to another man _ for your friends.” Mr Baume ■ ll Tou are a liar. You waut it straight.” Mr Hannan asked that Mr Baume be called upon to withdraw, but the Mayor declined to allow further discussion on this subject, and other business proceeded.
