AUCKLAND NEWS.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. The cable steamer Anglia arrived in Auckland harbor yesterday afternoon. Tho Taranaki branch of the Farmers’ Union has written to the manager of the Northern Roller Flour Mills, congratulating the company on standing outside the Flourmillers’ Association, and asking on behalf ofco operative stores and individual farmers for quotations for flour. Three hundred and fifty applications have been received for places in the Tenth Contingent. The Birkenhead Borough Council has resolved to ask Government to subsidise the daily mail service from Auckland to New Plymouth, or place one of the Government steamers on the run to fill the blank days.
