The delegates from the Commerial Travellers’ Association of the Commonwealth to the Australasian Conference were received by the Mayor (Mr Denniston), and welcomed to the colony. A man named David McFarlane attempted to commit suicide by jumping off the wharf. A lifebuoy was thrown, to which he clung till rescued by boatmen. He only returned home on Tuesday, and complained of being drugged. He was taken to the hospital by his mother, but escaped and made his way to the wharf. George. Goodwood, with a number of aliases, was arrested on a provisional warrant for absconding from his bail in Melbourne, where he had been committed for trial on a serous charge of larceny.
