CHRISTCHURCH NEWS
AN INQUEST,
By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night.
At the inquest on the body of Samuel Forsyth, a railway guard who was killed in the Lyttelton tunnel, the evidence threw no light on the cause of the accident. It was pointed out, however, that the dining car, which is in the middle of the train, was locked during the run between Lyttelton and Christchurch, thus preventing communication between the two portions. Tho jury rotumed a verdict of accidental death, with a rider that the practice of forwarding a dining car to Lyttelton should be discontinued, as it impeded tho progress of the guard from one end of the train to the other. A FILE.
A fire broke out in the public library tonight, but was extinguished before much damage was done.
