AUCKLAND NEWS.
INVITATION TO PREMIER. By Telegraph - Press Association,
Auckland, last night. The Hamilton Borough Council has invited the Premier to spend a night there, and afterwards to attend a dinner, either on his way to or from Cambridge. OFF TO THE CORONATION.
The Sierra, which sailed yesterday, takes from Auckland the largest number of passengers that any Oceanic steamer has ever left with for San Francisco. The
number is considerably over 250, including both classes, and the majority are going through to England. POLO SPORTS AND RACES.
The Polo Club's sports and races were held on Saturday at Alexandra Park. The
weather was beautifully line, and there was a iceord attendance. The Polo Club Cup. hurdles, and steeplechase were won by Mr C. Dawson’s mure Woo Tottie ; the Bonding Competition and Polo Ball Race bv Mr W. Lloyd; the Ladles' Bracelet by Mr Wilson s Taffy. Lieut. Franks won the event for the Ninth Contingent officers, and the Troopers’ Race was won by Trooper O'Neill.
