DIED WHILE DRUNK
By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. A man was picked up in MacLaggan street last Friday night, apparently very drunk. On being taken to the police station, he appeared to be suffering great pain, and Dr Gordon MacDonald was called in. He ordered the man’s removal to the hospital, where the man died on Saturday. At the inquest, the evidence was given that he had a seaman’s discharge in the name of R. Pender, a native of Scotland, 21 years of age, shipped at Lyttelton. The medical evidence was to tho effect that a number of small hemorrhages were found under the skin, suggesting hemorrhage of tho brain. Tho Coroner suggested that a post mortem might be held, but the jury, after a short retirement, returned a verdict of death from natural causes, and expressed satisfaction with the way the man had been treated by the police.
