FIRE AT CHRISTCHURCH.

[By Telegraph—Press Association]. Christchurch, last night.

About 7.130 last night, a fire broke out in a wooden building used as a gymnasium in Madras street, and, as tho tiro brigade were very slow in getting water on the building, it wits completely destroyed, as was also the Girton College of Misses Freeman and Fodor, while the houses on either side were badly damaged, and tho furniture which was taken out of these houses was badly wrecked. The gymnasium was originally built by Worthington as a social hall in connection with “ The Temple of Truth,” while the Girton College was also erected by the Students of Truth as a kindergarten. Tho gymnasium is insured in the National for £SOO, and the Girton College for £SOO, and the contents for £IOO in the Royal Exchange.
