NAPIER NEWS.
BOY DROWNED. (Per Press Association.) NAPIER, last night. A drowning fatality occurred here this afternoon. A lad named Crow-* tlier, about seven years of age, son of Mr S. Crowther, coach proprietor, who was bathing in the surr with some companions, was carried out to sea, and the youths being unable to help him, it was some little time before assistance could he obtained. When the little fellow was finally brought ashore hv Constable Oliphant life was extinct. The spot where the accident took place was a considerable distance from the bathing tents. Yesterday, owing to a heavy ground swell,, there was a narrow escape from drowning near the tents, hut the timely assistance of several adult swimmers prevented a catastiophe. TECHNICAL CLASSES. A conference of members of the Education Board and the Borouglj Council was held this evening to discuss the establishment of technical classes under the new scale. A scheme was drawn up to he submitted to the two bodies for approval, and it is to he hoped this will lead to the establishment of the classes.
