HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
The monthly meeting of the Trustees was held last night, there being present : Messrs Warren (in the chair), Harding, Johnston, Joyce, Kennedy, and Tuohy. A latter was received from the Secretary of the Charitable Aid Board, stating that the plans prepared by Mr Finneran,
architect, for an isolated ward, had been approved of, subject to the approval of the Inspector of Hospitals. A letter of approval was received from the InspeotorGeneral, slight alterations to the bath-room being required. It was decided to requisition the Charitable Aid Board for the cost of the work, the matter to be proceeded with on confirmation by the Board. The Assistant-Inspector of Hospitals wrote stating that the Government had decided not to set up a special hospital for the treatment of cancer.
The outdoor hand wrote, applying for an increase of salary. The matter was deferred until the beginning of the financial year.
The monthly report showed : Remain
ing from last month, 20 ; admitted since, 2.3 ; discharged, 21 ; deaths, 3 ; remaining at date, 21. The Treasurer’s report showed : Receipts, patients’ fees £'44 ss, subscriptions £l6 os, district board requisition £100; disbursements, bank overdraft on 22nd January, £lB6 los 6d ; accounts paid, £192 4s lOd; bank overdraft at date, £2lB 7s 4d; accounts passedfor payment, £l2O '2s-Bd.
The Visiting Committee reported that there were in the hospital several incurable cases which it was impossible to discharge. It was resolved that the Government be requested to consider the desirability of establishing an hospital for incurables in the North and also in the South Island. Tiie Secretary reported that Nurse Wyllie had left during the month, and on the motion of Mr Harding it was resolved that there be placed on the minutes a record of the appreciation of the Trustees of Nurse Wyllie’s excellent services during the seven years she had been on the Hospital staff. It was decided to have repairs effected to the cottage in Herbert street, the matter being left in the hands ot Messrs Harding and Warren.
Messrs Kennedy and Warren were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing month.
A circular was received from the Inspec-tor-General of Hospitals, enclosing syllabus of nursing lectures. It was reported that Dr Craig had commenced the lectures last Monday week, and they would be continued throughout the year, when the nurses might go up for examination in order to obtain certificates,
