METHODIST CONFERENCE.
[by telegraph—press association.] Dunedin, last night. The Methodist Conference opened this evening, the Itev. C. H. Garland, President, being in the chair. After service, the retiring President delivered his address, dealing fully with the expansion of the Methodist Church throughout tho world. Deferring specially to Australasia, ho spoke generally on the subject of Church Union. Any proposals in that direction would, ho said, bo sympathetically received by Methodists. He spoke hopefully of the religious outiook in tho colony. The President was thanked for his address, and the election was then proceeded with. The Kev. I). .T. Murray, of the Thames, was elected President by a large majority in the first ballot. The Bcv. S. Shaw was elected secretary ; assistant secretaries, T. Fee and T. H. Laws ; journal secretary, E. W. Grigg ; corresponding secretary, G. Ward ; precentor, A. Mitchell. The second reading of stations will be taken on Tuesday. The following are tho actual changes in the first reading of stations :—Auckland, Pitt street, Bevs. Garland, Beady, Greenslade, Griffith ; Mahurangi, Marshall ; Thames, Price; Upper Thames, Abernethy, Frost, and Belton; Franklyn, Penny; Coromandel, one to be sent; Hawcra, Porter and Oxbrous; Opunake, Trestrail ; Wanganui, Dewsbury and Eaton ; Wellington, Taranaki street, Smalley, Elliott, Sootier; Hutt, Tuck (supply) and Barnett; Greytown, Pendray and Blamires ; Masterton, Prior ; Eketabuna, Ellis; Pabiatua, Worboys; Nelson, Lewis ; Greymouth, McNicoll; Lyttelton, Luxford ; Kaiapoi, Dukes and Wallis; Oxford, Bellhouse ; Waimate, Tinsley; Temuka, Blight; Cargill Boad, Ward ; Mornington, Brooke and Wilson ; Port Chalmers, T. E. Thomas ; Balclutha, Mitchell; Milton, Standage ; Lawrence, Ginger ; Invercargill, Williams ; Oarnaru, Murray ; Roxburgh, Beckett.
