THE COMMONWEALTH.
TROUBLE AS TO THE SITE
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copy rig hi Melbourne, Feb. 21.
Mr Sydney Smith, of New South Wales, moved the adjournment of the Federal House to complain of the delay in selecting a site for the Federal capital, and Government arrangements senatorial for the inspection of the sites now proceeding. The discussion occupied a whole sitting, the complaints chiefly coming from New South Wales members, who charged the Ministry with hurrying the senators in regard to some sites, and showing favoritism in regard to others. Mr Reid characterised the tour as a gross job. He bad to withdraw the words. Mr Joseph Cook protested against the aggressiveness of the Victorians, who threatened the bond made with New South Wales. Sir W. Lyne defended the Government. He denied the charges of favoritism. Mr Barton deprecated the attacks. He did not believe any member would do anything to injure the rights of New South Wale 3 in regard to the capital. The motion was negatived.
