By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night.

There are now a large number ot horses in the lines at the Ninth Contingent camp, and a good start has been made with the mounted drill. A start has been made with the 'establishment of a Battalion Brass Band, and a practice will be held regularly. Captain W. F. Henderson (late of the Hokianga Mounted Rilles), who has been in camp for the last week, received a notification to-day that he will receive a commission of captain in command of a squadron in the Ninth Contingent. Captain Elliott, of the Huntly Rifles, has received a notice from the Defence Department, that his application for a commission is under consideration.
