FIVE MORE CASES—ONE FATAL By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, Feb. 17. A man namod Trust, residing at Camperdown and employed in Pitt street, and a woman named Wear, of Leichhardt, have been attacked by the plague. • Brisbane, Feb. 1,7. There have been three cases of plague in the city during the last few days. One proved fatal, that of a man named Shanahan.

NO EXTRA PRECAUTIONS. [Special to Times. ] Wellington, last night. The Health Department does not consider that the increase in the number of plague eases in Sydney warrants extra precautions being taken at New Zealand ports up to the present. They dislike disorganising shipping and mercantile people by enforcing quarantine, but the health officers at all the ports have been instructed to make a strict and thorough examination of all vessels arriving from infected ports and report at once any suspicious case of sickness. The various quarantine stations in the colony’are well equipped, and could be prepared to cope with cases of an infectious character at short notice. The Chief Health Officer is at present in Australia, and should any alarming features present themselves he may be relied upon to at once advise his Department what steps to take in the matter.
