SUPPOSED SUICIDE.

(Per Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH. last night. Fears are entertained that Dugald Paterson, who should have appeared at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on bail to answer a charge of obtaining the sum of £l2 10s from Alfred Butcher by false pretences, has made away with himself. The last trace found of him was last Sunday morning, when he left the Godley Head light-house, where he had accommodation for the night. There is no other habitation nearer than Sumner or Lyttelton, several miles of bleak hillswith the sea coast on each side intervening. The police have been out searching the locality, but no tracer has so far been found.
