CONGREGATIONAL UNION.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, last night At the Congregational Union Mr Gcc, Fowlds, M.HJ?.., moved : “ That the Couoeil recommend the incoming committee to approach Mr R. McNaughton for the purpose of securing his immediataservices as Evangelist in this colony,, and unlertake to get expenses guaranteed.” The Council ultimately decided, upon hae suggestion of Mr A. Bailey, to refer the matter to the Union Committee, instructing that body to place the proposal beforethe District Committee, and to act upors their advice.
It was moved by the Rev. Mr Saunders.-- T ’ and unanimously agreed to, “ That the question of beginning Congregational ser- ' * vices at Invercargill receive the careful consideration of the Committee, and' that they be asked to confer with the Rev. Burton-Hood.”
Mr W. H. Lyon moved, “ That £SO be lent to the Nelson Church for a period o£ threeyears."
The motion was carried.
The following motion was moved by the Rev. C. A. Lyon : “ That as the extreme difficulty of regulating the liquor traffic is becoming more and more apparent this Council desires to see a large increase of no-license votes at the local option poll next December.” The Rev. Davidson seconded the motion, and on the suggestion of Mr H. Lyon, the words, “ in spite of the efforts of the police ” were added. The motion was then carried.
The Conference is now concluded.
