OUR SOLDIERS.
[By T,T. erapn—Press Association.] Auckland, last night. The first draft of horses arrived for the Ninth Contingent at camp to-day. This morning a draft of Taranaki recruits arrived by the steamer from New Plymouth, and were met by Lieut. Bosworth and marched into camp. The detachment numbered 31 men, of whom 17 are from Hawera and 1-1 from New Plymouth.
There are now 472 men in camp. This number will bo increased within tho next few days, as some detachments of the North Island Battalion have still to arrive.
Mr W. J. Napier, M.H.8., have received a telegram from tho Premier, stating that the offer of the Davenport Coast Guard Artillery Volunteers to supply two Maxim gun detachments for service in South Africa with tho Ninth Contingent, was now being considered by General Babington. Palmerston North, last night.
Lieut. Bruce Beale, of tho Palmerston Guards, has been appointed actinglieutenant in tho Ninth Contingent.
