Attempted Murder.

A Russell correspondent gives the following particulars of the condition of the injured woman :—A grei: scare was caused here last Wednesday when we heard Kaupaka had been seen near .Russell in the small hours of the morning. Agnes Cook, the woman he is after, is now residing with her brother-in-law at Russell. The natives are much alarmed, and regular l watches are kept up night and day. It is supposed Kaupaka is hiding near this township. Agnes Cook was examined by Dr Menzies, of Obaeawai last Tuesday, when the ciocvw reported she is progressing, and almost out of danger. Constable I’ardy is one of the five constables now searching for Kaupaka. Constable B'ddick, from Kawakawa, has arrived. The presence of Keupaka makes us me! a bit nervous.
