New Zealand beef, 180 to 220 lbs, fair average quality : Ox fores, 3*d ; ox hinds, 4sd. Hides are in short demand. New South Wales, heavy ox, is at 4*d, light 4 3-8 d ; cow, 4*d. Leather is firm at lljd. Basils are steady ; Australian 13*d. The kauri gum stock is 1540 cases. Copper, spot, is at 55*; three months, 54*.

Tin, spot, is at 113 ; three months, 107*. Lead is at 11 3-8. Silver is at 2s 1 7-16 d. ; (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The following cable has been received from the Agent-General, dated London, February 8 “ Average prices to-day : Canterbury mutton, 3jid ; Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company, 3 J ( d ; other North Island, 3|d ; River Plate, 3|d ; mutton market weak. Trade in mutton very disappointing, there being only a very hand-to-mouth demand. Canterbury lamb, 5Ad. Shipments of River Plate lamb are increasing. Australian shipments of lamb now arriving are very heavy. Beef market firm. New Zealand hinds 4fd, fores 3 : |d. Good demand for butter at 109 s. New Zealand butter is giving satisfaction to buyers. Cheese market firm at 50s, Hemp market very firm. Good fair Wellington, spot, £37 ; March to May shipments, £35. No alteration in cocksfoot seed market since last week.” .
