GISBORNE-KARAKA RAILWAY.
(To the Editor of the Times.) SIR,—At tho turning of the first sod of the Gisborne-Karaka railway a little over two years ago the Minister of Public Works (Mr Hall-Jones) and his colleagues assured us that the line would be open to Ormond inside of twelve months, and to Karaka within two years. The Minister of Public Works in the course of a flowery speech further assured us that he would not allow the grass to grow upon the line. Now, Sir, I was over the line last Sunday, and I can inform you that tho grass is growing knee deep on the line in many places. Further than that, I know of one farmer who has reaped a large crop of grass seed off the line running through his property. Ido not suppose that Mr HallJones is aware of this fact, but I think the Railway League might draw his attention to the present state of affairs. It would serve to remind him of his promises, and perhaps cause him to get a move on, so that the line would be constructed to the Karaka before the next election. —I am, etc., Hopeful.
