A LIBERAL GATHERING.

SPEECH BY THE PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Speaking at a Liberal gathering this evening, the Premier declared that it was obvious someone had blundered in regard to the acceptance of the Argentine meat contracts, and he had only acted rightly in drawing pointed attention to it. If the press cables were accurate, tenders had been called under cortain conditions, and totally opposite conditions had been accepted. Ho went on to say the Government were prepared to give the people in the Mother Country and British manufacturers a preferential tariff, and were also prepared to give a rebate on British manufactured goods carried in British ships.

Referring to railway works, Mr Seddon reiterated that the Ministry would not go beyond the votes authorised by Parliament.
