PATRIOTS RESOLUTION.
ANTI-BRITISH MEMBERS OI SENATE.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, Jan. 23.
The Senate has adopted resolutions expressing indignation at tho baseless charges against the troops in South Africa and readiness to give all requisite aid to the Empire. The motion was greeted with cheers, excepting by Mr McGregor, of South Australia, who protested against the continuance of the war. All the speeches were strongly patriotic. Subsequently, Mr Pearce, of Westralia, presented a petition praying for the Australian contingents in South Africa to be withdrawn. The petition contained several allegations of cruelty agaiust the British troops. Major Nield ejaculated “Wholesale lies !”
After protests against its being read, the House received the petition in silence. Mr O’Connor stated that tho only reason of Argentine meat being included in War Office contracts was the prevalent possibility of supplies beiDg blocked in the event of drought or famine in Australia.
